Starting in your mid-to-late 30s, you may find yourself looking a little more unfamiliar in front of the mirror. If you have lost a lot of weight in a short period of time, yo-yo dieted, had experienced a traumatic event or had been under a lot of stress for prolonged periods of time, you will probably notice that you have lost some volume and firmness in some areas of your face. This is also a predictable part of the aging process in general. And of course, a poor diet definitely is a big contributor as well. Surgeons in Austin often find that the three most popular areas of concern are the lips, chin and cheeks.
Thinning Lips
When younger individuals in their mid-to-late 20s start to shed their “baby fat” and notice their skin is less resilient, it’s still hard to imagine thinning lips as a part of the aging experience. But from our mid 30s and on, that is where we start to lose some volume in our lips. The lips also start to show lines which eventually extent to the outer edges that share a border with your upper lip. The most popularly known method of lip augmentation is by way of collagen injections. For a more permanent solution, however, lip implants are available.
Weak or Sagging Chin
Another unexpected change that you will eventually experience is your chin pad will feel more flexible and thin. A weakened chin is a common yet very unpopular companion to drooping jowls, as they accentuate one another as those lines on either side of your chin that is popularly referred to as “marionette lines.” Implants are also available for the chin, in an assortment of shapes and sizes to re-contour that area in a flattering way.
Sunken-In Cheeks
This area is usually the first to show signs of aging or diminished healthy tissue, and is the most noticeable, as it makes up for a large portion of the face. As the underlying tissues are loosened and diminished in size, the skin also begins to sag. In addition to this, the retaining ligaments that hold your cheek tissue and skin in place start to loosen. For a slight lift, injectible fillers work quite well. Just as with the chin and lips, you can opt for a fat graft and transfer or implants for a more dramatic and permanent result.
