The eyes can speak volumes before a single word is even uttered. Some would argue that the actual eyes alone reveal a lot about an individual. But in time we find that extra lines and sagging skin can make an individual appear tired, sullen or even angry when they actually aren’t feeling these things at all. Aging is a curious thing. Many of our Austin patients describe a feeling of losing oneself as their faces, especially the area around the eyes, sag and make the eyes lose their vibrancy and youthfulness.
The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
When skin and muscle fibers around the eyes lose their elasticity, fatty deposits make their way and settle into these loose areas, further contributing to heaviness around the eyes. In some cases, vision is even impaired when loose skin folds too far over or around the eyes. With the eyelid surgery procedure, loose skin and underlying tissues are smoothed out, redistributed, and excess skin is removed. The natural creases of the upper and lower lids provide a way for incisions from the procedure to go unnoticed. It takes a skilled cosmetic surgeon to be able to manipulate the delicate tissues of the eye area, with natural-looking results.
The eyelid surgery procedure can be performed in combination with a variety of other procedures, including a brow lift, face lift, or a variety of skincare procedures that are effective in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Depending on the individuals needs, our cosmetic surgeon will be able to tailor a plan to get you to your goal.
Eyelid Surgery Candidates
To qualify for eyelid surgery, Austin residents are asked to disclose any medical conditions that may interfere with one’s ability to heal properly. Healthy circulation is important for proper healing. Please let the doctor know if you have any conditions or are taking any medications that adversely affect circulation. Please let our doctor know if you are a smoker, as smoking hinders your circulation. Getting smoke in the eyes shortly after getting the procedure done is also a serious detriment to the healing process. Any eye conditions or diseases should also be disclosed.
The good news is, you’re not stuck with what father time has left you. You can enjoy the wisdom of advancing age, while still looking and feeling beautiful beyond your years.
