Dermaplaning in Austin
Dermaplaning is a safe and effective way of exfoliating dead skin cells with a scalpel in order to reveal smooth, glowing, and more youthful-looking skin.
Men have the advantage of shaving to exfoliate their skin on a daily basis. Women, on the other hand, have to take extra steps to remove dead skin cells for healthier and glowing skin. Thankfully, the dermaplaning services offered at Devenir in the Austin, Texas area makes it easy and convenient!
The added bonus of dermaplaning is that the vellus or “peach fuzz” hair is also removed during this process. Removing the hair in this way does NOT change the type of hair (ie., a vellus hair will not turn into a whisker).
What Are the Benefits of Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning helps to remove the top layer of your skin in a safe and effective way. This treatment can also help reduce the appearance of acne scars, sun damaged skin, and fine lines.
Dermaplaning is also a relatively quick procedure and typically takes about thirty minutes or so to do.
How Does Dermaplaning Work?
A topical anesthetic may be applied to your skin prior to your treatment. There is no need for a general anesthetic for this treatment.
The tool that is used for a dermaplaning treatment looks similar to a razor. One of our highly trained aestheticians will use a sterile blade and carefully move it at a 45-degree angle across your skin. This technique removes dead skin cells, peach fuzz, and other debris from your face, revealing smoother, younger-looking skin.
Downtime and Results
There is no down time after this type of exfoliating, and you will notice a better penetration of your products post treatment, as well as smoother application of makeup. You may experience some redness after dermaplaning; however, this minor side effect is completely normal and usually subsides within a couple of days.
You can typically see results a couple days after this treatment; however, results from dermaplaning are not permanent. Results typically last for three to four weeks, and you may come in for another treatment after that time.
It is important to be extra careful about being in direct sunlight after your dermaplaning treatment. If you have to be outside, be sure to apply sunscreen with SPF in it, and wear protective clothing, like a hat, to ensure that your skin is shielded from the sun.
Most insurance companies do not cover dermaplaning. To get an estimate of how much your dermaplaning treatment will cost, be sure to ask during your consultation or call our office and one of our highly trained staff members will be happy to give you an answer.
